Membership & Merchandise Manager Intern

The mission of INDYCOG, founded in 2010, is to promote bicycling as a safe and viable means of transportation and recreation in Indianapolis. We will accomplish our mission through advocacy, collaboration, education, and promoting bicycle culture.

Definition and Purpose of Position:
INDYCOG is in need of an intern to manage our membership & merchandise programs. Membership is the lifeblood of our organization and therefore we need someone that is responsible, creative and willing to go that extra mile. We currently have a donor management system but are looking to upgrade to a more automated system. We would like the person in this role to manage the migration and assist in setting-up the new system. Our merchandise program is small but we would like to see this portion of our organization begin contributing more to the bottom line, which is where you come in. We would like this person to help grow the merchandise program and assist in expanding our product line.

Most importantly, we want your internship to be one in which you grow your knowledge base of nonprofit management as well as the field of sustainable transportation and get hands-on experience in a professional work setting.

Job duties: Potential job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage day-to-day activities of membership
  • Send out monthly renewal letters
  • Track renewals, new members, & expired members
  • Follow-up with expired members to reengage them with IndyCog
  • Work with Treasurer to develop budget
  • Research Donor Management Systems
  • Weekly reporting to staff
  • Meet program goals set by organization staff and board
  • Develop a sustainable program management process for future management


  • Track and restock inventory
  • Find new and restock current distribution locations
  • Develop new merchandise
  • Collaborate with Social Media Manager to develop weekly relevant posts/tweets.


  • A desire to improve the Indianapolis bicycle community
  • A superb customer service attitude
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets & database management
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must be detailed oriented, well organized & able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment

Additional Information:

  • This is a paid internship starting immediately, if candidate is successful in this position there may be the opportunity to be hired full-time at a higher rate of pay ($8 starting hourly rate).
  • This position is available for undergraduate or graduate students.
  • 6-10 hours per week
  • The candidate will gain experience in community-building, volunteer management, sustainable transportation, nonprofit management, database management, membership management & sales.
