Man attacked on Monon

Southside Johnny posted this in a comment thread, and it's been making its way around, but I just wanted to get it up on here for those not privy to message boards and such. A 60-year-old man was assaulted yesterday on the Monon near Kessler Blvd yesterday afternoon. The attackers fled the scene and have yet to be apprehended. The most detail I've been able to find on any of the local media outlets is that it was 3 men. If any more info becomes available, I'll be sure to update here. Update: WTHR lists the location as near Canterbury Park, just north of the 54th Street crossing, not at Kessler Blvd. They also write that anyone with any information regarding the incident should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.

I don't think there actually were two attacks. I think people are just getting mixed up.

The article Oran posted reports that there've been 4 attacks on the Monon reported to the police so far this year.

I'm glad to hear people on here saying it's not deterring them from riding/commuting on the Monon. The last thing that needs to happen is this reporting turning into fear-mongering.

Two attacks in two days? What? The last attack I remember hearing about was the one in 2007 down near 21st street. Then I read the news story about Wednesdays attack and find out that there have been plenty of muggings on the trail.

I'm either out of the loop or this sort of thing happens all the time and doesn't get that much press. Either way, it doesn't change anything for me and my commute on the trail.

Sorry I have confused everyone. Talk about the "telephone game." It was yesterday, and they were all shooting b-roll footage. But I asked another person in the park who told me it was today and that they incident yesterday was at the bridge over Kessler. Sorry all.

I misspoke...this was a new attack today by Canterbury Park!!! That is 2 attacks in 2 days on the Monon!

It was b-roll! Sorry. But, I went to grocery on bike and was interviewed by Ch. 13 They were getting ready to ride the Monon at 54th in the parking lot at Locally Grown (shop there). They asked me my thoughts (a scary proposition) and I said I will ride MORE, that we are a city with all the good and bad that comes with that, and I have friends who commute from at least 54th everyday and have never had a problem. The key is, we are a city! Imagine DC, London, Chicago, or New York not having an incident for weeks, much less months on bike trails...they would think the Rapture had come.

Just talked to the Ch. 59 crew. I was riding into Canterbury Park on my way home, within view of the park and 1 block from 54th. They said the same thing, 3 men attacked a somebody. Channel 13 crew was there as well.
