It's so hot.....

Yup! It's hot outside. And later today it'll be hotter than two rats making love in a wool sock.

If you're out riding today, whether it's commuting from work, riding to the grocery school or doing the Nebo Ridge Ride you'll need to take some steps to stay cool. Heck, you'll need to do something to keep from falling over dead.

It's so hot I saw two trees fighting over a dog

Seriously there are numerous things you can do to prevent dehydration and hyperthermia (overheating.) Drink water prior to your ride. Drink during your ride. Put your water bottle in the fridge prior to your ride so the water is nice and cold. Wrap a cold, wet towel around your neck. Ride in the shade. Take the Monon, it's shady. Cover head, ears, face & neck with something like the French Foreign Legion hat you see in the movies. Spray water on your head. Ride through the lawn sprinklers. Wear light colored clothing.

Hotter than a whore house on nickel night.

What's your favorite hot weather riding trick? How do you stay cool? Let us know!

I had lime juice and mint to my water bottle and then partially freeze or add lots of ice. More of a refreshing thirst quencher on a hot day than just water alone.

Eat light.

Wear sandals.

Don't sit all day in cold AC and then immediately go outside. If you do have to sit all day inside an ice box, hang out in the sun for a minute before you ride to get your body acclimated to the heat.

Get a rack so that you don't have to wear a bag on your back.

Stay away from a lot of salt, sugar, meat and alcohol.
It's so hot, my oven is bitching! June 28, 2012
For water bottles, i suggest filling it halfway, then setting it in the freezer on its side. When you're ready to ride, fill the rest. You should still be able to squeeze the non-frozen side and it should keep your water cold for most of the trip.
