Bike Week and Bike to Work Day 2017

Ok, folks, Bike to Work Day is one week away! If you haven't checked out the BTWD webpage, you can access it here for additional information. The morning kicks off at 7 am with the mayor's comments being made around 7:45 am followed by the traditional blessing of the bikes. We'll shut things down around 9 am.

Make sure you thank our sponsors and supporters if you get a chance, and check out all the bike trains which will be heading downtown on the big day. Also, encourage your employers to support you, their employees, for BTWD. Who knows, you make work for a bicycle friendly business and not even know it! (you can check on your employer's status here) Lastly, don't forget to post your photos from the event on social media. We'll be using the tags #btwdindy and #btwdindy2017 for our posts!

Along with BTWD, comes Bike Week, the week preceding May 19. Many of our fellow bicycle groups are holding events during that week, so check out the list below and get out and experience our great city by bike!

Bike Party Indianapolis hosts their monthly ride on Friday, May 12 (TONIGHT!) starting from the City Market. The routes and stops for the rides vary by month so each ride provides a unique experience around the city. Appropriately enough, this month's ride has a racing theme. Check out the Facebook event for more information.

Central Indiana Bicycling Association Repeating Ride: CIBA provides a host of weekly rides which leave from various points in the city. Check out their repeating ride calendar to see if a ride kicks off near you.

The Liv Women's CycloFemme Ride kicks off on Saturday, May 13 from Bent Rail Brewery. This is a group ride downtown with a stop at Metazoa brewing for a tour and socializing. Check out the Facebook event for this ride here.

The Cultural Trail and Pacers Bikeshare will hold an open house for Pacer Bikeshare members on the evening of Bike to Work Day at their headquarters at 132 W. Walnut St. This open house will run from 4:30-6 pm and will feature snacks (SNACKS!) and beer from Sun King. Remember, this is for Pacer Bikeshare members, so join today so you can attend!

Indianapolis is home to several mountain bike trails, all maintained by the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association. Visit their website to find out more about the work of HMBA and the local trails. Quick disclaimer….it is best to stay off the mountain bike trails when they are muddy so as to avoid damaging the trails. So if there has been rain recently, check out the trail status page on HMBA's website.
While not technically part of Bike Week, the Bike to the 500 is still a Bike Month event. Just like the name suggests, this is a group ride to the Indy 500, leaving from the City Market. More info can be found on our web page for the event. (And a very important FYI, this ride does NOT include tickets to the race. Need to provide those yourself!)

PS: Have an event that you would like included in this list? Shoot an e-mail to ed@indycog.org and we'll update this page!
