Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet tells the dramatic and enlightening behind-the-scenes story of how a group of determined visionaries transformed Portland into a cycling mecca and inspired the nation. Mia’s visit will begin Monday, February 28, 2011 with a 2:00 PM presentation to the general public, planning professionals and community leaders about inventive policies that create and promote sustainable transportation solutions. This presentation will be held at the auditorium in Government Center South & you can RSVP for this event by visiting the Health by Design website At 5:30pm. , Ms. Birk will head north on the canal to the INDYCOG & CIBA sponsored book signing. Bring your own book or purchase one at the event. Mia Birk is Chief Executive Officer and Principal at Alta Planning and Design in Portland, Oregon, with 20 years experience in sustainable transportation focused on pedestrian, bicycle, trail, and greenway planning, design and implementation. Mia is also Adjunct Professor at Portland State University, where she co-founded the Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation in the College of Urban Studies.
