Volunteer to count bikes!

Data is essential to planners, city officials and bike and pedestrian professionals in improving the infrastructure and network for those who choose to bike and walk. We need your help! There has been consistent data collection happening in Indianapolis since the fall of 2012. These counts help build long term support for biking and walking. Without consistent data collection, it is difficult to measure the usage and demand for bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure. Your support is essential in collecting these usage numbers. These manual counts are an important way to track the level of bicycling and walking in our city over time.

This spring the counts will take place on Tuesday, May 5th from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday May 9th from Noon to 2:00 p.m. The rain date will be Wednesday May 6th from 5-7 p.m. No rain date has been selected for the Saturday counts. All volunteers will receive a 15% off coupon from Bicycle Garage Indy (BGI). When you turn in your count form you will be registered in a drawing for a $25 gift card to your choice of BGI for all you bicyclists or Finish Line for the walkers out there. If you volunteer for both days, you will be registered twice.

Email Joan Cook, Health by Design, at jcook@marionhealth.org if you are interested in participating. For more information, you can contact her at 317.250.3475 Please indicate what day you would like to count and if you have participated before. For any new counters, this is fun and easy and you can quickly be trained over the phone or by the materials we can send you via email. If you want a particular spot or side of town, let her know and she will do her best to accommodate.
